Combine horseriding and sightseeing in the north just as you like. Go riding over the black beach and on the cliffs and/or visit Goðafoss waterfall, Ásbyrgi canyon and go whale watching!

Saltvík Comfort is a tour ideal for families and friends who prefer rather easy riding schedule compared to our longer highland trails. Daily rides are from 3-5 hours every day adjusted to the needs of individual riders. Depending on the wishes of our guests it is possible to start the tour with some ridinglesson(s) in our inside ridinghall to learn about the Icelandic horse and how to ride the tölt.

    NOTE

    Optional is to skip the domestic flight and travel on own responsibility to Saltvík farm. This option reduces the price by 250 euros.

    WHAT IS INCLUDED

    Domestic flight to/from Husavik, transfer to the farm.

    During the ride full board is provided. Our menu consists of a large breakfast and traditional Icelandic meals (fish or lamb). Vegetarian meals are available on request when booking. All riders make their own packed lunch from the breakfast table.

    Alcoholic beverages are not included in the tour price and are hard to get in the highlands. They can be bought at a reasonable price in the Duty Free Store at Keflavik Airport upon arrival.

    Rain wear, water bottle, saddle bag, riding helmet.

    ATTENTION

    Individual travel insurance is not included in the tour price. We encourage clients to obtain relevant travel insurance before visiting Iceland.

    Flight to and from Iceland is not included

    Bring bags rather than hard cover suitcases

    Pack light because transport space is limited.

    DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

    The trails in the countryside of the north around Saltvík farm are extremely nice and various. We ride along the seaside over the black beach and on the cliffs. But also up to the heathlands of the northern farmlands with a fantastic view out to the arctic circle and the volcanic landscapes of the north. There is a possibility to cross a river on horseback and we can pass the pretty waterfalls “Æðarfossar” at just a few meters distance.

    Saltvík Comfort is a tour ideal for families and friends who prefer rather easy riding schedule compared to our longer highland trails. Daily rides are from 3-5 hours every day adjusted to the needs of individual riders. Depending on the wishes of our guests it is possible to start the tour with some ridinglesson(s) in our inside ridinghall to learn about the icelandic horse and how to ride the tölt.

    We offer horses for riders at all levels so families or friends at different experience levels can enjoy the same rides at different tempo´s and action if wanted. Daily rides can also be divided in two parts were some riders ride half a day and others full day.

    This tour is ideal for guests who would like to try out if a longer highland tour would be something to join on a next visit. Or simply want to have a little less challenging rides than all the other longer highland tours include, and combine the holiday with the possibilities of various activities and sightseeing available in the area.

     

    Examples of possible sightseeing activities:
    – Whale watching tours from Husavik (5 km distance from Saltvík farm)
    – Sightseeing tours to Lake Mývatn (30 km / 30 min drive away)
    – Ásbyrgi canyon – the hoofprint of the 8-legged horse Sleipnir (40 min drive)
    – The mighty and beautiful waterfalls Goðafoss and Dettifoss are less than an hour drive away

    USEFUL INFORMATION

    Here you can book your Flybus ticket to and from Reykjavík. The Flybus departs from Keflavík airport 35-40 minutes after each arrival. Busses are located right outside the terminal building. Book my ticket.

    ACCOMMODATION

    Saltvík Guesthouse

     

    Located 5 km from central Húsavík, Saltvík Guesthouse offers accommodation with views of the surrounding mountains and Skjálfandi Bay.

    We offer accommodation in a newly established guesthouse with 7 double rooms with private bathrooms and one small apartment that sleeps 4-5 people, ideal for families or friends.

    We use our old farmhouse for guests that are joining the multi-day riding tours. The old farmhouse has 6 rooms for 2-4 people each. It features a nice living room and a great view towards the sea along with two shared bathrooms.
