On this tour, we meet our hosts for the famous Kjölur tour Gústi and Jónína. They will lead us towards the beginning of the magical Kjölur trail through the southern countryside of Iceland. The first day we will ride towards the majestic waterfall Gullfoss and see the power of nature at work. The days ahead will lead us straight to the wilderness of the ancient trail Kjölur where we will ride along the slopes of Bláfell mountain and ride the southern part of this highland rout that so many Icelanders have traveled through the centuries.
We ride towards the second and third largest glaciers in Iceland Langjökull and Hofsjökull and feel the power of nature go straight through us while we traverse this ancient trail. This tour is ideal for those who can only travel during the springtime and want to see as much as possible of Iceland in 4 days.

What is included
- Bus transfer from Reykjavík to the farm.
- During the ride full board is provided. Our menu consists of a large breakfast and traditional Icelandic meals (fish or lamb). Vegetarian meals are available if requested when booking. All riders make their own packed lunch from the breakfast table.
- Alcoholic beverages are not included in the tour price and are hard to get in the highlands. They can be bought at a reasonable price in the Duty Free Store at Keflavik Airport upon arrival.
- Rain wear, water bottle, saddle bag, riding helmet.
• Individual travel insurance is not included in the tour price. We encourage clients to obtain relevant travel insurance before visiting Iceland.

Thursday: Reykjavik – Myrkholt
Pick up between 10:00 – 10:30 in the morning from pick up points in Reykjavik www.busstop.is. Please be ready at the earliest pickup time and be ready in your riding clothes. Transfer by bus from Reykjavík to Myrkholt farm where the tour starts. When we arrive around 12:00 we will meet our lovely hosts Jónína and Gústi and enjoy an introductory lunch l where we get to know each other. We will meet our horses after lunch and head out to the southern countryside. Overnight stay at Myrkholt farm. (Approx 20km)
Friday: Myrkholt- Fremstaver
On this exciting riding day we head out to the highlands. On the way, we stop at the magnificent waterfall Gullfoss and from there we strive straight into the wilderness towards the majestic glaciers Langjökull and Hofsjökull which are the second and third largest glaciers after Vatnajökull in Iceland. Our ride today leads us to a mountain called Bláfell. There we spend the night and rest the horses at Fremstaver Mountain cabin (Approx. 25 km).
Saturday – Fremstaver
Our ride continues along the slopes of Mt. Bláfell. This area was roamed by outlaws in the old days. During the last centuries, traveling through the remote highland was a dangerous trip due to outlaws waiting to rob the riders. We ride alongside the banks of the glacier river Hvítá and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the southern highlands. We spend the night and rest the horses one more night at Fremstaver Mountain Cabin. (Approx. 30km)
Sunday – Fremstaver – Myrkholt
On the last day of this adventure, we saddle up again and ride by the canyon of Hvítá river heading southwards to the lowlands. Our horses bring us in their soft and strong gates the last part of the journey. With an amazing view over the hot spring area, Geysir we ride back to the farm Myrkholt were we spend the last night of this tour and enjoy a lovely goodbye dinner. (Approx 25km).
Monday – Myrkholt – Reykjavík
After breakfast, we say goodbye to our hosts and fellow riders and head back to Reykjavik.

Here you can book your Flybus ticket to and from Reykjavík. The Flybus departs from Keflavík airport 35-40 minutes after each arrival. Busses are located right outside the terminal building. Book my ticket.
Please be ready at the earliest pickup time. Your accommodation might be the first one for pick up.

Fremstaver is a cozy hut on the south slopes of the mountain Bláfell. The cabin is situated in beautiful surroundings that offer many sight-seeing possibilities. Climbing the mountain Bláfell is a long but rewarding walk. The top offers views wide and far on a good day.
